So, I'm now officially an app developer!

I did not wake up at the beginning of the year and think I’d be putting App Developer on my LinkedIn profile. But here we are!

From an idea to an app in my hand.

Greater Than Labs just launched our first app, Jiyi, on the App Store!

It’s a fun, simple word game with the unique twist that you play with Chinese characters, but you don’t need to know any Chinese!

Why?!

Because think of how cool it would be to play a game for a few minutes each day and look back in a few weeks and realize:

“Hey, I recognize over 100 Chinese characters!”

Yeah, but why did YOU do this?!

Two reasons.

First, I still remember the excitement when I moved to Beijing and started recognizing Chinese words and characters. Chinese had always seemed so foreign and out of reach. And it is, until it’s not.

With Jiyi, I want to share a bit of that excitement. That wonderful feeling of discovering, “Hey, I recognize that!”

Second, AI has reached a point where ideas that once seemed out of reach are suddenly possible. It’s incredibly fun discovering what I can build with it and how far I can take this.

I’d love your feedback!

Have ideas for ways to make it better? Anything not working? Something confusing, frustrating, or just doesn’t work the way you’d expect? Let me know! This is an after-work project, so I may not respond immediately, but I will definitely respond.

And if you’re experimenting with AI, trying to turn an idea into something real, ping me! I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned and help you.
